It’s proven. Wine makes you creative!
For those lone evenings that all of us must face it must be a nice surprise that, wine, consumed in the right amount, may help people with creative problem solving. Now that is one for the books.
Scientists from the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago published an interesting study on the effects of small amounts of blood alcohol on cognitive skills. In tests, a blood alcohol level (BAC) of 0.07 helped people solve certain types of problems faster than people who did not drink.
A BAC of 0.07 is the equivalent of one to two drinks depending on your sex, weight, and other parameters and when you are sitting at home two glasses of wine might just be the right medicine. Another great benefit is that you do not have to drive.
The researchers found that intoxicated people solved more items in a shorter time compared to sober people. Additionally, these intoxicated individuals were more likely to rate their solutions as insightful.
French businessmen at lunch must have known all along that turning the brain slightly off somehow expands a person’s ability to come up with new and novel solutions to problems that come up at work.
Don’t overdo it though but do test that creativity.
